JB’s brief included instructions to:
- Design a triplex (three townhouses) to blend into the urban environment,
- Design a structure to best suit the natural fall of the land.
- Triplex design to consist of three x bedrooms and two x bathroom units.
- Each unit design to accommodation a single garage plus an open carport.
The constrained sloping site presented an overall design challenge, particularly for vehicle access as the site has a 3-metre even fall to the rear of the block and this feature demanded a design that would allow a structure to step evenly down the site.
JB’s contemporary design encourages the townhouse complex to quietly travel down the slope, in such a way that the complex disappears from view at street level.
The angled building design element, enables a modern-style-construction arrangement to work easily with the minimum requirements for vehicle access with turning, allowing drivers to leave the site in forward gear.
The overall design establishes private, covered outdoor living spaces, that provide additional shading to ground floor living areas.
